Reportedly drunk teen falls off 50-foot cliff in Laguna Beach
October 31, 2011 | 1:52 pm
A teenage boy was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach after falling off a 50-foot cliff early Sunday morning -– apparently after trying to avoid police officers.
Police were first called to the Aliso Creek Inn at 10:45 p.m. Saturday to break up a large party. A couple hours later, at 12:32 a.m., dispatchers received a call regarding a teenage boy who had gone missing. The 17-year-old was located prior to their arrival at the bottom of a cliff near Country Club Drive, the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot reported.
Police believe the teen ran away when police arrived earlier in the night because he was heavily intoxicated and wanted to avoid officers, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. He jumped over a barrier, hoping to hide behind it, but fell and landed in the creek below.
Kravetz said the teen suffered from hypothermia and extreme alcohol intoxication.

Five teenagers arrested for stealing Halloween candy
Sat Nov 5, 2011 4:48pm EDT
(Reuters) - Five Virginia teenagers were charged with robbery and assault after they beat up two Halloween trick-or-treaters and stole their candy, Police said on Saturday.
The group allegedly surrounded two other teenagers, ages 15 and 17, as they were going door-to-door in a neighborhood in Dale City, Virginia, said Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department.
One of the teens said he had a handgun and demanded the trick-or-treaters turn over their Halloween loot. The pair refused and the group assaulted them, police said, adding the assault resulted in minor injuries.
"Robberies are not unusual, but these are kids," Perok said.
Of the five arrested, four were juveniles aged between 16 and 17, and were not identified. Andre Diggs, 19, was also arrested and is being held without bond.
Prince William County is located roughly 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

BLACKSBURG, VA --
It may have been a trick, but a raw chicken foot Randa Freeborn says her six-year-old son discovered Monday night in his candy bag, is certainly no treat.
"He said eww that's gross, then he threw it at his sister and said here you can have it, so we were looking at it and thought it was a big candy piece of some kind," said Freeborn.
Freeborn, who lives in nearby Newport, in Giles County, took her two children trick-or-treating in Blacksburg, in a neighborhood along Mountain Breeze Drive. She says her husband alerted authorities when they found the foot.
We checked with Blacksburg Police, and officers confirmed they did receive a call from the couple.
"If anybody else with kids would have just opened it up and stuck it in their mouth thinking it was candy, you know that's pretty gross," said Freeborn.
Blacksburg Police say the call from Freeborn's husband was the only report they received about a chicken foot inside a child's candy bag, and that it is difficult to determine where it may have come from. But officers say it serves as a reminder, even on the day after Halloween, to check and see just what your children are bringing home.
"That's exactly why we stress Halloween safety, and our school resource officers give talks on Halloween safety to the kids," said Sgt. Joe Davis, with the Blacksburg Police Department.
It's all in an effort to make sure parents and children check before chowing down. As for the Freeborns, they are just glad they snagged the foot before it became a snack.
